Overworked, over tired, overstressed; the tolls of living and making a living tell their own tales in the dark circles under our eyes, our lank hair, and pasty complexions. When you work a full-time job, you are either indoors or in your car for more hours than you ever wanted to be.
They now have a full range of cosmetics to help you hide the fact that the only sunlight you see is through your windshield. Of course, too much sunlight is not such a good thing, but not enough is bad too. You get Vitamin D from sunlight, and it’s a well-known fact that getting fresh air during the day helps you sleep at night.
So, how do we combat having to be indoors? Go to the spa! No one really knows where the word ‘Spa’ originates from, but it is thought to be an acronym for the Latin phrase ‘salus per aquae’ or ‘health through water’. Sounds good, right?
In the 19th century, the wealthy would go to the spas to ‘take the waters’, as mineral water is said to have healing properties. Many spas have been built up around mineral springs and hot springs all over the world, and, naturally, their affordability is directly proportionate to their popularity.
Day spas have become hugely popular, as they offer facials, massages, waxing, body wraps, and other treatments to make you look as beautiful as you can in as little as an afternoon. You can schedule the whole range of offers, and literally spend the day, but the time spent is well worth it.
With a body wrap, the excess water is squeezed from your body, causing you to literally shed pounds in just a few hours with no real effort on your part.
A chemical peel will actually make you look younger by removing dead skin cells from your face, smoothing your facial skin, and even evening your skin pigmentation. Of course, a chemical peel is no real substitute for cosmetic surgery, but if you have a free day and an important event that you want to look your very best for, it will do in a pinch.
Chemical peels are offered by most cosmetic surgery clinics as well as health spas, but if you don’t have a local clinic or health farm on your doorstep, there are home peel kits you can buy that are reasonably effective. A company called Skin Institute UK offers information and advice about chemical peels as well as a multitude of other non-surgical treatments, such as dermal fillers. If you search your favourite search engine for dermal fillers, you will likely find them with ease.
Of course, we all know what waxing is(Ouch!). The alternative to hot wax is laser hair removal, and either one is a more attractive option than shaving every 2 or 3 days. Some day spas even offer tanning beds, so you can have that ‘just came back from vacation’ look without ever leaving town. Wrap it up with an aromatherapy treatment or a salt scrub, and you will feel as beautiful on the inside as you look on the outside.
If you simply feel that cosmetic surgery is not something you want to commit to, a spa will do its best to keep you looking good anyway. Alternatively, there are lotions and creams designed to give you a ‘sunless’ tan, a wrinkle-free face, and remove the dark circles under your eyes, so don’t worry if a spa is out of your reach.
